Biography

Simon’s background is in risk, safety and resilience within the aviation industry. With a degree in engineering and a PhD in psychology, he has always sought a better way of developing products and services to put people at the centre, preventing error and managing risks to individuals and organisations.

His action-learning research on human-centred design adapted how aircraft are designed and maintained. His insights led him to train aviation organisations and regulators worldwide; he was placed on various safety committees and presented at international symposia. His team of engineers and psychologists developed and implemented safety improvement processes, analysed and investigated safety incidences to better understand how to manage safety in a high-risk environment. He now lectures on Safety Risk Management for City University, London and continues to research and implement these concepts in aviation.

Simon is also a professionally qualified coach, and has worked on European Commission-funded programmes to help high-growth businesses achieve their ambitions, focusing on innovation, governance, agile business development, risk/opportunity management and resilience.

He now adapts these concepts of risk and resilience for critical infrastructure and specifically within a health and social care setting, training practitioners, developing policies, methods and software and also supporting decision-makers.
