Biography

I bring a wealth of senior managerial, clinical and executive experience to the Q community having lead numerous service redesign and quality improvement initiatives in my 33 year NHS career as a senior nurse and executive director in commissioning and providing acute, community and primary care services, the past 13 years in Sunderland and across South of Tyne and Wear. For the last year I have worked part-time as an academic at the University of Sunderland, carrying out action research to support the local health system, eg workforce and development in integrated care delivery, working the New Care Models workforce team, and the implementation of electronic integrated care pathways.
Q feels like an exciting, ‘practical’ social movement which has the potential to make a real difference to patients, carers and staff. It provides an opportunity for like-minded individuals to link up to learn from each other about quality and improvement techniques, what works and what doesn’t in our local regions and nationally. My particular interest is in quality improvement initiatives which involve staff, patient and carer input, process redesign and action research which can be practically applied, as I feel I have particular expertise in these areas. I’m hoping that my learning and experience in the Q network can be used back at the University of Sunderland with the next generation of professionals, building an ‘improvement mindset’ for the next generation!
