  • Would be very interested in clinicians’ views. The content of the tweet below is not atypical of the feedback we receive: An older friend of mine (65years+) had a 3 min consultant appointment recently. Her husband drove 150 miles for a verbal, no hands-on, no diagnostic appt. It took a whole day. They asked for a telephone or Near Me appt but…Read more

    • From my point of view (as a GP) that is not the experience we would aim to provide.

I think patient choice is key here. In this instance the patient should have been offered a telephone call as a minimum (or video call). The consultant might prefer in person but if they are aware of the challenges the patient faced they perhaps would consider…Read more

    • Thanks, Chris – agree with your comments. We signpost to local providers over such concerns while looking for any patterns. If a provider is not comfortable using video or thinks other approaches are quicker that will influence their decision. Is there more support we can provide to boards? I will use some of your comments as generic messaging.…Read more

  • Happy New Year Everyone Sharing three short film clips on the use of Near Me from different perspectives including the use of Groups. Grateful to my colleagues in NHS Grampian for their fantastic work. I think they are rather compelling but feedback would be great to me or @rosiecooperPatient explained why choice is important”As a patient, the…Read more

  • Fantastic use of Video appointments from NHS Highland.
“The development of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery has involved looking at ways of ensuring that patients’ expectations are managed prior to coming in for surgery. Weekly presentations and discussions for pre-op patients are held on Near-Me, NHS Highland’s virtual consultation servi…Read more

Hi everyone! We have our annual Q community event on 18 October that will be a great opportunity to learn and share with other members. Hi everyone – this message was posted on the primary care group by April Masson and I wondered if anyone had anything to add to the discussion?

Hi everyone, I am new here. I am the portfolio lead for primary care at Healthcare Improvement Scotland. I started in May. We have j…Read more

  • I was thinking about the title and therefore content of this group. Is the focus still on ‘how to set them up’ or is (or could it be) more general updates on progress and issues etc? Just a thought.
For instance, is this article on whether the use of video consultations might impact on recruitment and retention of GPs relevant including the…Read more

    • Hi Maimie – that’s a great reflection. I agree the name of this group doesn’t now suit the purpose this group could have. (it was initially set up in March 2020 by the Q team – when setting up video consultations fast was what everyone was trying to do).
I really appreciate the active contribution you make to this group, sharing the learning from…Read more

About this group

In response to Covid-19, the health system plans to rapidly expand the use of video consultations.

The aim of this group is to share practical learning, tips and challenges when introducing this complex service change, and to learn from existing evidence.

We want this space to be helpful in progressing your work, rather than competing with it.

This group is convened by Jo Scott
