Biography

I am Deputy Director (Clinical Effectiveness), South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Director, North East Quality Observatory Service.

Clinical Effectiveness Advisor, Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria.

My background is in NHS measurement, Health Services Research, Epidemiology and Statistical Process Control.

I have been working on Quality Improvement since 1998. I'm particularly interested in hospital mortality and the time-sensitive conditions, like AMI, stroke, FNOF, sepsis, CAP, AKI, VTE and frailty that cause the highest volumes of deaths in hospitals. As a result, Patient Safety is my main focus. The requirements placed on the NHS from March 2017 to learn from deaths in care are especially important, including the introduction of Medical Examiners. I also have an interest in Virtual Wards, Hospital at Home, Urgent Community Response and other services at the interface of hospital and community care.
