Biography

Thomas graduated in 2006 with a BSc in Psychiatric Nursing from NUI Galway and commenced his career working in the National Forensic Service in the Central Mental Hospital. He has experience working in addiction services in Vancouver as well as acute care in St. Patrick’s University Hospital. Thomas spent 7 years working in Dublin South Central Mental Health Services working in the acute setting, and as a Community Mental Health Nurse in the Psychiatry of Later lLfe team up until 2016. He completed his MSc in Psychosocial Interventions in Mental Healthcare in 2015 with the University of Limerick specialising in mindfulness and nurse’s understanding of mindfulness-based therapies. Thomas joined the Nurse Practice Development Unit, Community healthcare East in 2016 as a Clinical Placement Coordinator (CPC) and was a key member of the Educational and Clinical Sub-Committees for the Higher Diploma in Mental Health Nursing (HPMHN) . Thomas worked collaboratively with the HEI – UCD in the development of the new HPMHS as well as a new Undergraduate Nursing Programme that commenced in September 2017. He also worked in NMPDU as a Nursing Officer and recently completed his MSc in Digital Health Transformation and started a new role as Nurse Practice Development Coordinator in Dublin North City MHS in December 2020.
