Biography

Samrina is the Chief Pharmaceutical Officers clinical fellow for NHS England, Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) and is an associate of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics. Prior to this role, she was at Guys and St. Thomas’ NHS Trust as a Specialist e-Prescribing and Senior Surgical Pharmacist. She has a keen interest in patient safety, governance and healthcare technology. Her work in digital healthcare led her to be awarded the highly commended national award of ‘Future Digital Leader of the year’ from Digital Health in 2018.

She applied to the fellowship to build on her frontline experience and to gain insight into the wider healthcare landscape through leading on national projects.

As part of her current role, she is leading the national scoping exercise on closed loop medicines administration for NHS England. She is also working with NHS Improvement and the Medicines Use and Safety team at SPS, on the national ‘do once’ programme to develop national patient group directions.  She is also developing recommendations to improve the Medication Safety Officer Network activity by carrying out a longitudinal study of three national surveys. Furthermore, she is part of a pharmacy team for one of 12 Commonwealth Partnerships. These global partnerships are supporting building capacity for antimicrobial stewardship in four African commonwealth countries.

She has been exposed to national policy and change and has a greater understanding of the drivers behind them. She has had the opportunity to work with senior leaders in the NHS across multidisciplinary professions which enabled her to develop her leadership skills.
