Biography

In my current role I combine my 13 years clinical and research experience and my expertise in sustainable healthcare to lead in shaping a national strategy for sustainable quality improvement.

At an organisational level, I work with Trusts and other healthcare organisations to mentor healthcare staff in running, spreading, scaling up and sharing projects that have proven impact in improving healthcare in the domains of environmental, social and financial sustainability.  Within each organisation I work collaboratively with quality improvement and non-clinical support teams (e.g. estates, procurement, waste, communications) to establish inter-departmental working relationships to create the culture necessary to support sustainable healthcare.  This work at an organisational level is growing into regional working, which is strengthening capacity for sharing of best practice.

I qualified from Imperial College in 2006 later specialising in palliative medicine.  I was successful in gaining an 18-month clinical fellowship in early phase trials at the University of Oxford 2017-2018.  In addition to my NHS work I have worked in the charity sector in both clinical and non-clinical roles.  Since 2018 I have worked for the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, an NGO and think tank with the core aim of reducing the environmental impact of healthcare.

I believe in the importance of providing 'thinking space' for healthcare professionals to release their creativity and capabilities in improvement and innovation.  I use facilitation techniques to empower others whether working on supporting leaders or  teaching quality improvement, sustainable healthcare, communication skills, ethics, values or 'Whole Person Care'.
