I wasn’t suggesting that a Fiat 500 is a better or less quality car than a Bentley; and from a car satisfaction survey from a few years ago it suggested that the Fiat was the better car. I’ve done a number of training sessions in Quality Management over the years and have asked the question which is the better quality car, a Fiat or a Bentley,…Read more

A Quality management system (QMS) is a management system that manages for quality. Its based on a governance system of polices, processes and procedures (3Ps), that ensures that the service is planned on the basis of a defined quality. It seeks assurances of compliances against the 3Ps and seeks to address the risks of non-compliance. Continuous…Read more

    • A grand explanation Nigel, Thanks.

    • “A QMS should be capable of producing a Fiat 500 as well as a Bentley Continental, whilst QI is trying to create the Bentley from the baseline of a Fiat500.”

Absolutely agree with you John, but QI is so embedded in the NHS trying to change the understanding of QM is very difficult and slow.

  • Excellent review and with views I agree with too. The ideas of process mapping and process modeling are often difficult concepts to grasp, certainly when I’ve tried to discuss with people, and would benefit from an example.

    • Thanks for your comments. Here is a link to an illustration I produced some time ago to show the difference between process mapping and modelling. It’s a bit intense but I hope that it is of some help. It’s part of a series call ‘Brining the tuning fork diagram back down to Earth’. I really do wish that people would make the effort to learn from…Read more

    A few thoughts:
In order to manage quality you have to manage all your resources that includes but not limited to financial, accommodation, equipment, consumables and human. It is after all a system.
The highest quality becomes within your reach when you can manage all in a coherent and a inherent way. A good quality management system requires…Read more
