Dear all, can anyone point me in the direction of articles discussing the impact and patient experience of virtual appointments? Many thanks, Jo

    • Quite a lot was done in Scotland through various means including surveys after a Video consultation; public engagement; citizen’s panels, focus groups and specific research projects and so on. The work has looked at actual experience and what people think about having virtual appointments. Perhaps message me and we can pick up offline and I can work out what best to share. Since March last year I have generally keep a look out for such evidence and reports!

    • The video-consultations team at Barts, featured in the virtual event that I ran back in November (see clips below and this website https://sustainablehealthcare.org.uk/what-we-do/connecting-q-locally/remote-consultations) have published in this area. For a list of publications visit this page https://www.bartshealth.nhs.uk/video-consultations Jo Morris, who is a project manager and leading on key aspects of this work is part of this group so you may also like to contact her. Do let the group know how you get on! It would be great to hear how this group has helped you in your work.

      • Hi Olivia, these links are brilliant- thank you! I will contact Jo Morris too- many thanks for the recommendation. Best wishes, Jo

      • It really is my pleasure, Jo. Some of the aims of the group are to help people network, find resources and make collaborations that will help to improve the sustainability and resilience of healthcare. And I’m delighted to be able to help where I can. I wonder if you’re also considering looking at environmental sustainability alongside social sustainability?

    • Thanks Olivia!
Yes, we have published in this area and some of our publications are listed on our website (https://www.bartshealth.nhs.uk/video-consultations), scroll to the bottom of the page.
More recently we have been analysing over 3000 patient feedback surveys, please get in touch for details of that.
Oxford University have been looking at the impact of the pandemic on video consultations and some of their emerging findings are in their blog, details below. If you scroll to the bottom of their blog there is a link to some further research. https://www.phc.ox.ac.uk/news/blog/video-consulting-in-the-uk-nhs-2013-how-far-have-we-come-and-how-far-should-we-go
      Hope that helps.

    • Hi Jo, We’ve carried out a patient survey and staff survey on this topic in our Infectious diseases service – let me know if useful to send you the write up (it’s not published yet). Bw, Sarah
