Biography

I am a Registered Nurse with 27 years of experience in the NHS

I am a value driven Nurse who enjoys building & supporting healthcare teams, supporting the development of others and quality improvement.

My key strengths are nursing leadership, governance, quality improvement and innovation, building partnerships and developing relationships with key stakeholders; being open, honest, and operating a no-blame culture. Listening to other points of view and offering a calm and reassuring approach always. I am a strong quality assurance and improvement professional with a Master of Science (MSc) in Healthcare Leadership. Vast experience of leading and managing clinical teams.

I successfully completed an MSc in Healthcare Leadership and the NHS leadership academy award in 2017. I am a confident nurse leader, someone who can challenge the status quo and have difficult conversations to really make a difference for the quality of patient care. My values encompass compassion, authenticity, honesty, courage, commitment and caring. These values are at the heart of who I am as a nursing leader.

My recent experiences and key achievements include:

Undertaking independent clinical review investigation for NHS England and the Prison and Probation Ombudsman for deaths in custody.

Working for the national Health and Justice team in NHS England, writing national guidelines for preceptorship for nurses and nurse associates in criminal justice settings

Working with the Royal College of Nursing and Health Education England to develop a student nurse handbook and virtual teaching simulations to encourage recruitment and retention of nurses in prison healthcare

Strategic leadership for the quality oversight and assurance of specialised commissioned services in the South of England and South East of England

Commissioning Investigations into serious incidents in Secure Mental Health Settings.

Leadership and management of reviews into the quality-of-service provision for Tier 4 CAMHS unit and Adult PICU/Forensic services

Reviews of the quality and safety of service provision in Health and Justice Settings including, Youth offending Institutes, Category B&C prisons, Sexual Assault Referral Centre's.

Chairing and leading Serious investigation panels, with multiple stakeholders involving safeguarding and care of vulnerable adults and Children.

Chairing and leading system-wide meetings when serious quality/patient safety issues have been identified.

Leadership of governance and assurance reviews of clinical governance processes, including ‘ward to Board’ quality governance for Acute Providers and Secure Mental Health.
Working with and Supporting providers during times of crisis such as inadequate CQC ratings/warning notices.

Supporting NHS and Private provider organisations to establish effective systems for governance including Serious incident processes, patient experience, risk management and complaints.

Leadership on the quality and safeguarding procurement of specialised services, primary care and Health and Justice services.

Undertaking deep dives/thematic reviews into serious incidents/death in custody.

Working on GP/Dental practitioners’ advisory panels (NHS England performers list) as patient safety/experience expert.

Working on NHS England homicide panel reviewing and analysing independent reviews.
