Biography

Gillian is a Nurse Academic with extensive experience in clinical, Higher Education and applied research leadership and mentorship. Her current research focuses on nursing leadership, service improvement and developing Clinical Academics. Gillian has particular interests in Silences Research, workforce engagement and wellbeing for patient safety and service improvement, qualitative and applied research methods. Her PhD focused on exploring the silences associated with the recovery experiences of young people with fragility hip fracture.

Gillian is a Global Nursing Leadership Institute Scholar, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, former fellow of the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL4HealthNE) and a member of the Q Founding Cohort. She is Trustee of the Clinical Human Factors Group (www.chfg.org.uk), Associate Editor of the Journal of Patient Safety and ECR Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Clinical Nursing. She has consultancy and national/international policy development experience.

She was a member of the National Reference Group for Service Improvement and has extensive experience of programme development including for example the MA Advancing Quality Safety & Governance in Health and Social Care and CIEHF recognised PgCert Advancing Human Factors in Health and Social Care programmes. She is a licensed Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBTI) Step II practitioner and has been an accredited NHS Leadership Model feedback facilitator since 2004.
