Biography

Prior to joining the Health Foundation, Esther worked as a Public Health doctor with health care and Public Health teams across both local and national government, and in Health Protection at Public Health England. She has an interest in improving the quality of health care, the effectiveness of health services, and in developing ways to measure relevant outcomes for patients and populations.

Esther conducted her doctoral research at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Her thesis was on the use Patient Reported Outcomes Measures (PROMs) to evaluate the quality of acute and emergency hospital care in the NHS.

She studied Medicine at Imperial College London with an intercalated BSc in Management from Imperial College Business School, and she has an MSc in Public Health from LSHTM. She has previously worked as a junior doctor in the NHS on the North West Thames academic foundation programme, and was a National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow at the Department of Health and NHS England.

Esther's focus at the Health Foundation focuses on the role of health care sector in improving population health through prevention, reducing health inequalities, and the social (or wider) determinants of health. She applies to her work her interest in health care effectiveness in improving outcomes for patients and populations.

She currently splits her time between the Health Foundation and Imperial College Healthcare Trust, where she is developing a Public Health Function with colleagues within the Trust's Population Health Framework.

Esther is an Honorary Assistant Professor at LSHTM where she currently teaches on the MSc Public Health module in Health Services, and is an Assessor on the University of London Examiners Board for LSHTM’s Masters programme.
