My background is pure NHS.  I am a Registered General Nurse with over 25 years NHS experience working in a variety of NHS organisations including acute and community services. I have an MSc in Strategic Leadership and Change Management and in 2014 attended the IHI Pattient Safety Officers Programme at Boston USA.

I have worked with AQuA since 2010 delivering on patient experience, quality and safety improvement programmes across the North West, while at the same time building and expanding upon my own knowledge and skills in improvement science and theory.  I believe passionately that staff within the NHS have the knowledge and skills to improve patient safety and patient experience. I view my role in AQuA being clearly linked to developing and supporting teams to enable them to deliver on the agendas and pressures faced daily by staff working within the NHS today.

Relevant Experience/Key Projects

I am involved in designing, delivering and evaluating AQuA programmes and am the lead for the safety and mortality programmes within AQuA.  During my time with AQuA I have been the programme lead for Advanced Team Training Programme, Patient Safety Champions, The Safety Thermometer (as part of the harmfreecare work), Patient Experience and The Frail Elderly Safe in the Community Project, which was funded by the Health Foundation in 201/132 to support safety for frail and elderly patients within the community setting.

I am currently the AQuA lead (working as one of 3 Regional Improvement Bodies) in the testing of The Measurment and Monitoring of Safety Framework project which is also supported by The Health Foundation.  We are working closely with Healthcare Improvement Scotland and The Improvement Academy from Yorkshire and Humber AHSN to learn about the application and learning from the introduction of the framework in front line clinical services.  Our local test teams are from Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust and The North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
