Dr. Aarti Bansal is a GP in Sheffield, a medical educator and the founder of Greener Practice. Aarti started working in undergraduate medical education in 2007 and has a Masters in Education and is a Senior Fellow of The Higher Education Academy. Aarti’s curricular innovations in medical education have been highlighted as examples of good practice by the GMC. She is currently undertaking an NIHR research fellowship at Hull York Medical School on how medical education can be optimised for the development of person-centredness. In 2017, she was appointed RCGP SYNT Faculty’s first Climate & Sustainability Lead and founded Greener Practice. She has led this initiative from a small local group to a thriving national community of health practitioners actively supporting UK General Practice towards sustainable healthcare. The initiative has set up a website (www.greenerpractice.co.uk) and twitter (@greenerpractice) platform for information sharing. Aarti helped to write the climate emergency motion passed by the RCGP council in September 2019 and co-chairs the RCGP Climate Emergency Advisory Group. In September 2020 she was elected to the RCGP College Council. Aarti has contributed to the development of a planetary health curriculum for GP registrars and written several articles on practical steps primary care can take towards greener and better healthcare.
