A reminder of our lunchtime event on Tuesday 28th September from 1-2pm. We will hear from Kent Community Trust about how they have used QI to foster joy at work. There are tangible results in terms of recruitment and retention, and a knock-on effect in terms of overall productivity. Surely focusing on joy is what we all need to be doing to make sure our workplaces are happy, healthy environments where individuals and teams can thrive. • I’ve been giving a lot of thought to ‘joy at work’ following on from Virginia Patania’s session over the summer, and I’ve put some of my reflections in this article – ‘Building compassionate and joyful workplaces’. Shameless self promotion (sorry) – but I thought it might be a good bit of pre-reading prior to next Tuesday’s session, which ties together joy and QI: https://www.bmj.com/content/374/bmj.n2148

    • This is such a lovely piece Ramya – I always go straight to your column when my BMJ arrives. You have capyured this so clearly and the examples of the things that sap joy out of work are spot on. I can’t join on Tuesday unfortunately, but do agree this topic is the building blocks of good QI. Thank you for keeping it so high on the agenda. We devoted our team meeting yesterday completely to ‘how do we maintain our well-being despite the workload pressures’, it was lovely and we all felt better for it.

      • Thanks so much Joanna – so kind of you! Yes, I think making the link between joy at work and QI is so important. If you don’t have a team who feel able to bring their best selves to work, then it’s going to be almost impossible to make any meaningful improvements. Glad you were able to dedicate some time to think about this within your own practice.
