A quick note to bring you up to speed on our plans for the next Q Liberating Structures user group session…

After our rewarding first session with 60+ participants, we’re planning our next session to be on 27th August at 11.30 for a 12pm start (event page to sign up will be coming soon).

The Liberating Structures we plan to try out together are:
    1. Spiral Journal
‘Calmly prepare for the work ahead while sharpening observations’
This one is in development, but seems to have grown fast in popularity.
I don’t think the instructions are on the Liberating Structures website…

    2. Troika Consulting
“Get Practical and Imaginative Help from Colleagues Immediately (30 min.)”
This one really impresses me, as everyone in the rooms gets help with their
challenge! Part of me is still surprised that it’s not used at conferences regularly…

There will be ‘Impromptu Networking’ too: http://www.liberatingstructures.com/2-impromptu-networking/

If you’d like to get involved in helping organise the next session, do let us (me, Neil, Matt) know.

It’s been fabulous to see the number of people who have already offered to get involved in organising future sessions, lead one of the structures etc.

We’re working on a way to enable everyone who wants to to get involved – borrowed from what is working in the Cardiff/London LS user groups – but aren’t quite there with it yet…

    • Looking forward to it! The last session was extremely useful and I co-facilitated my first virtual session using LS (Triz), MS Teams and Jamboard yesterday. It went very well.

      • Hi April,
        Isn’t TRIZ fun!
Did you manage to get as far as agreeing on some activities to definitely… stop?! 😉

Do you know when breakout rooms is coming to Teams?

    • I’m on leave and hopefully on my way to Highlands on 27th, considering putting it off to attend this :p
Will just have to keep an eye out for the next one!

Re. breakout rooms in Microsoft Teams – I am right this second in a presentation from MS where they have said this should be with us no later than 1/2 Oct 2020 🙂

      • Maybe the Highlands is enough of a liberation, even without Liberating Structures? 😉

Good to hear that people using Teams will have breakout rooms soon – definitely one of the best aspects of Zoom.

      • Haha I suspect it will be!

        I know, we’re desperate for it…

      • We have breakout rooms in Teams already. However, it is NOT intuitive and doesn’t work as well as Zoom. But we have no choice right now as we don’t have permission to use Zoom due to security concerns.

      • At the moment, we just use meeting links or channel, but this is a workaround.
Actual breakout functionality similar to Zoom where facilitators can assign attendees into rooms, move between rooms, broadcast messages etc is going to be launched in this October update. Hopefully it will be much better!

    • Look forward to the next session . I missed out on the first one. I running a session on W3 tomorrow with 60 staff reflecting on how we do not go back to managing caseloads preCovid.
Will be using Miro to collaborate. Cant wait for breakout room in Teams and 49 on a screen
