Dear All
I’m running an intro to QI session this week (for our PICU team) virtually and wondered if anyone can suggest an interactive virtual game they can do either alone or in breakout small groups to either illustrate measurement or PDSA and reducing variation.
Thanks in advanceKate
Hi ,there’s a coin spinning game for PDSA

I’ve heard of the coin spinning game being used in virtual training. Karen
Thanks so much Karen I’ll take a look at this
I think this is a big challenge. The coin spinning could work well. It will be interesting to see if how it lands on a virtual session and how interactive it can be. If only someone could invent a virtual Mr Potatohead…
@amycruickshankhas sent me slides for a house building PDSA via virtual whiteboard. I’ll upload them here this morning
Sounds great. Thank you. I’m really interested in a game for measurement that can be done virtually. I’ll be testing some ideas this week with colleagues.
I would love to see this as well Lou.
that sounds interesting, I would love to see it too. Lou
Yes please Lou. I can’t see it but maybe you (like me) had a busy day!
Now shared here: https://q.health.org.uk/document/grand-designs-build-a-house-pdsa-exercise-from-royal-free/ sorry for delay 🙂
Hi, my colleague and I tried the coin spinning exercise to demonstrate PDSA cycles and I don’t feel it worked particularly well. It could have been our delivery of course but since then, I have been scouring the net for other examples to try. I had an idea of something along the lines of a paper aeroplane, but that could be too time consuming. Any other suggestions would be great.
Thanks
We have our first virtual session next week and I’m searching for this too. Coin spinning is too at the moment but I can foresee a few issues with keeping everyone engaged. If anyone has any dos and don’ts is really appreciate it. I’d be really interested in seeing Amy’s house example.
Hi everyone,
I ran my first virtual session two weeks ago and spent a while trying to think of an alternative to my beloved paper planes/ tennis balls.
I used an online peg solitaire game. Gave everyone one attempt to see what they got, then set a smart aim which was something like to reduce to number of remaining pegs by 2 in the next 10 mins. Worked well (and some computers had blocked the site but everyone used their phones which was a relief!) There’s loads of different sites with it online
That sounds great, thanks for sharing. I hadn’t thought about online games.
This sounds great Paula will have a look. Thank you
Thank you so much Paula this worked brilliantly for me and really engaging.
Think would use in face to face training too as actually many liked the ‘computer game’ element.
Really appreciated
Hi all, sorry for delay – now uploaded here https://q.health.org.uk/document/grand-designs-build-a-house-pdsa-exercise-from-royal-free/ and available via the documents tab at the top of the group
