Hello, North Cumbria is developing as an Integrated Health Care System, keen to develop improvement project that benefits patients journey across that system – possibly around “what matters to you” theme. The challenge is moving to real networking across boundaries and understanding perspectives of professional groups and patients. Very fledging idea, but would welcome thoughts of others.

    • Hi Ruth. This is an important topic; if we are to make a success of integration we must ensure that all employees of the partnership are able to communicate effectively, and freely, and that a culture of open-ness and sharing is encouraged. Critical to this aim is the implementation of a common communication platform, one that can be accessed by all staff, so that they can all raise and resolve human-factors event data, and all see the results. Such a platform also facilitates dialogue on a whole range of topics, not just human-factors.

In recent weeks I’ve been in touch with North Cumbria University Hospitals Trust to introduce a commercial off-the-shelf platform, already in-service with a number of NHS Trusts and social-care providers, but which could easily be expanded to serve local authority staff, and employees in social-care, and the voluntary sector. This platform has been included in the list of resources that forms an annex to the Sturrock Report into NHS Highland.

I would be more than happy to discuss how this solution could assist in this area.
